It's Back!

Another winter storm blew through the area today. I know I had said last week that I was sick of the snow...maybe I lied cause it's great! This time it was acually snow, the kind you can make into snowballs and eat! For a while it was coming down as big huge flakes and you could feel it on the tip of your nose.

I bounced and hopped around in the snow. I was so excited! Maybe a bit too excited because I kept on tugging on my leash.

Amy didn't like that too much. She also didn't like it when I met my first snowman. Not that she didn't like the snowman, she didn't like that I jumped up on him and started clawing at his head and she especially didn't like it when I tried to push his head off. I was good though when she took this picture.

The Monster Ball

I love tennis balls. They're great because they bounce and you can run after them and catch them and squish them in your mouth. And if you have a red one like mine, you can squish and squeak at the same time.

I also love my orange plastic ball. I like to chase it around the house and bark at it.

There's also this soccer ball. I would really like to run and chase it around the house too but I'm not allowed. Apparently there's a possibility that I could deflate it.

But those are nothing compared to the incredible fitness ball! It's gigantic! It's bigger than me! Now I'm really not allowed to play with that one cause it's filled with lots and lots of air. It's kind of unfair, I mean, there is a chance that I wouldn't pop it

I wonder if it squeaks...

Finished with the Snow

Okay, so I know I said that I really wanted it to snow and I was really excited when it snowed a week ago, but now I think I'm ready for it all to melt away. I haven't gotten to go on a long walk since it snowed last week because all of the sidewalks are a treacherous, icy, sometimes slushy, mess covered with salt and sand. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy indoor frisbee as much as the next dog, but I miss sniffing the new smells during my daily walks. I have to admit that I was a little thrilled on Sunday night when there was a dusting. As I slipped and slid outside, I definitely was licking up the newly fallen snow.

Year of the Pig

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! As you might know, Amy is Chinese-American and her family celebrates the Lunar New Year. She and her cousins say it's their favorite holiday because one of the traditions is red envelopes. All of the younger people receive red envelopes from their parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents and do you know what's in them? Money! Money actually isn't that exciting to me but apparently it's what humans use to buy things. Things like treats and frisbees and leashes and tennis balls and food which makes me think that getting money is a good thing.

Amy and her family are going to some big New Year's dinner at a restaurant with all of their extended family. There's supposed to be a lot food but they're not allowing dogs.

This is the year of the pig. Amy's sister, Vicki, was born in the year of the pig. I was born in the year of the monkey, which probably explains why I'm a little crazy sometimes. Amy, David and Amy's niece, Ashlie, were all born in the year of the sheep, which makes perfect sense because, I'm a border collie and we're bred to herd sheep. Okay, so I don't herd sheep, but I do kind of have my own sheep to take care of.

Wintery Mix

Another winter storm hit us last night! It started yesterday afternoon, Amy and I actually took our evening walk in freezing rain and it froze on my fur and on her coat. Then when we woke up this morning, there was a few inches of snow, sleet and ice on the ground.

Oh and Happy Valentine's Day everyone! So far, mine has been great. After an abbreviated walk this morning, Amy blew bubbles for me in the backyard which combined two of my most beloved things...bubbles and snow!

Oh and does anyone know who won the Westminster? I completely forgot to watch it last night. I don't now how the border collie fared in the best of breed and show competitions. Do you know?

The Squeaky Ball Challenge

One of my favorite toys is my red squeaky tennis ball. It's just like other tennis balls except it squeaks! Usually I just like to prance around the house squeaking it. If it escapes from my mouth, or if Amy throws it, I'll go chasing after it. Sometimes I like to play on the edge, at the edge of the TV stand that is. I challenge myself to not let the ball roll underneath the TV stand. Often times however, I lose that game and the ball rolls under the TV stand.

The problem is, although my front legs are quite long, they're not long enough to reach all the way and get the ball.

Then when I get really frustrated, I start whining a lot and I start biting on the TV stand.

That's when Amy gets mad and gets the ball for me. And I'm all happy, well, until the next time I lose the ball again.

Flyball Box

Last night, Amy and I had flyball practice. It went pretty well except for some inexplicable reason I started barking at one of the nice handlers. Hopefully next week I'll be better behaved. We practiced with an actual flyball box and we ended practice with the jumps, which I love! We also got to bring home a real flyball box. The flyball team captain let us borrow it. Amy and I just finished practicing. Tada, here it is.

We just started practicing with a ball. Eventually I'll know how to jump on the box, which will release a ball, which then I'll grab and then head in the other direction. Boy, there's a lot of steps involved. Hopefully with more practice I'll get it someday.

Oh, don't forget to watch the Westminster! We're watching tonight, terriers are on right now, I think the herding breeds are on tomorrow!

Snow, Koko, Bubbles

Did you hear, it's supposed to snow again this week! I can't wait. There is actually some snow left over from last week. Today when I went to Amy's parents' house, there was still some in their backyard and after some frisbee playing, I ate some snow to satisfy my thirst.

As you might know, it's been super cold lately so after spending some time outside, we headed inside where Koko and I played. He might be small but he can roar with the best of them!

Then Amy's nieces turned on the Bubble Babble and we all ran around chasing bubbles, they love the machine as much as I do. We are all determined to pop those bubbles!

Then after a while we all took a break.

Pooping Accident

Last night, Amy and I made our usual mid-week trip to her parents' and then her sister's house. While we were at her sister's house, her nieces let me and their dog, Koko, out in the backyard for a potty break. I did my business, both one and two. When we came back inside, Amy was sitting on the couch with Koko when she noticed that he smelled. Yup, he definitely went rolling around in the mess that I left in the backyard. Neither Amy nor Koko were very happy, Amy, because she had to clean poop off of her sister's dog and Koko, because he was being forced into a sink and drenched with water. I thought it was pretty funny. In all the hubbub though Amy did an unthinkable thing...she left my frisbees at Koko's house. I was distraught when we got home and she went into my backpack to pull out my frisbees and there was nothing there. How will I survive one day without my frisbees?

It Snowed!

It snowed last night! The weather forecasters were right! Amy and I took our usual morning walk in the snow. It wasn't a whole lot of snow, just an inch or so, but it's good for now.

I want snow like we did a few years ago where there was a whole lot and the snow came up past my legs and I got to bounce around. We've still got some more winter left. I'm going to keep my paws crossed.

Standing Out

Last night Amy and I went to the Applied Skills class at All About Dogs. It was a bit of a stressful class, we did a lot of loose leash walking and that always gets me nervous, especially since I was the only black and white dog in a sea of yellowish/tanish golden retrievers and yellow labs. Being around all of the moving dogs got to be a bit much so Amy and I took a time out and then we just played the dog/treat game. Basically, any time I look at a dog and then look at Amy I get a treat. Oh speaking of treats, I got some really good ones from one of the trainers, Pam. Amy told her how picky I am about treats, how I got tired of hot dogs, meatballs, chicken and large amounts of peanut butter. Right now I like beef jerky but give me a few weeks, that might get old too. One thing I'll never get sick of is bubbles, I still love those. Oh and another thing that I love? Snow! It's supposed to snow tonight, I hope it does!

Flyball Practice

Last night I had flyball practice for the first time in a month and it went pretty well. We practiced doing turns on an actual flyball box and that went okay, I was beginning to get the hang of it by the end but I still need to work on it some more. My favorite part though were the hurdles, I love those! I even did well with the other dogs around. The first time I went in, there were two dogs doing full runs on the course and even though I would watch for a few seconds I'd refocus my attention on Amy which was really good. We got home in time to see the rest of the SuperBowl, well, we watched enough to see Rex Grossman throw two interceptions, once that happened, I tuned out and fell asleep. Amy flipped over to the PuppyBowl once or twice, no border collies this year.

Tonight we have the Applied Skills class at All About Dogs. Last week was the greatest class! We were practicing stays on our mats with Kong toys. Kong toys! We spent the entire class getting treats out of our Kong toys and all we had to do was stay on our mats. One of the trainers, Pam, was very impressed with my strategy for getting treats out of the Kong. I'd pick it up and then throw in on the ground so the treats would fall out. For those of you who don't know what a Kong is, it's a rubber dog toy that humans stuff with treats for us dogs. We then spend time trying to get the treats out of there. You can learn more about it by going to www.kongcompany.com.

Update!

It has come to my attention that I might have a wider audience for my blog than I had originally thought so there has been a request for more blog entries. I'll try and be a little more diligent about updates. Firstly, I'm happy to report that the technical difficulties we've been experiencing with uploading pictures has been magically fixed! So, let's see, where to begin? Ummm...it's winter! Finally! It's cold and I love the cold weather! It even snowed a few weeks ago, Amy and I took a walk while it was snowing and it was great! Be sure to bundle up whenever you go outside!

That scarf is actually Amy's. She thought it would be funny to take a picture with me wearing it. I actually did get a new scarf, the trainers at All About Dogs last week gave me one with my name on it! I wear it during class so that the other owners know that I need a little more space than the other dogs, I am still a Rowdy Rover after all.

Let's see, what else? Oh, I got a bath today...blech! I don't know why, I am clean without having to take baths. In fact, a few weeks ago, Robin, the owner of All About Dogs, asked Amy if I had just gotten bathed because my fur looked so shiny and this had been weeks since my last bath! Well, I got through it and I was pretty darn good during my bath so Amy rewarded me by bringing out the Bubble Babble machine!

This thing is best thing ever! It blows a million gazillion bubbles!
